Here and There Slocan

Sophie, Fiona and I have started a Daily 'City' Blog, in case any of you who follow this blog are interested in daily glimpses of our community and environment as the seasons pass. It's called Here and There Slocan. I'll add it to the sidebar too.

  3. Oh no. This is going to make me want to move there even more. I'm a Montessori elementary teacher. Do you have any Montessori schools there? I think I've said this before, love your blog and love your life.

Hi Miranda, my name is Scribhneoir and I've been reading your posts for quite some time now and I really enjoy your sense of humour. Funnily enough I found the Slocan site yesterday, lovely photos! Because of where I live my internet connection is often very slow and so every now and then I will save a few webpages for later reading, most recently I saved all your “the ugly face of reality” posts and have been reading through them this morning after coming in from a hour of shovelling compost from one pile to another (and working through some sibling issues in my head whilst doing it!).
I was laughing so loudly whilst reading about your first experience with the cyclonic technology that is dyson that my hubby asked me to read it aloud to him and we had a moment remembering when we first got our dyson – he bought it second hand at a market one sunday morning and when he came home with it we couldn't wait to get started. Our mobile home (trailer) never looked so good! Good memories!
I was then reading about your ice rink (dec2007) and the problem you have with water pressure in your grivty feed water system and wondered if you guys have things called “pressure tanks” over there in BC? They are quite common in Ireland where many people are on well water systems or living in areas of low water pressure and so are easily available in hardware or plumbing supply stores. They look cylindrical but without any hard edges and vary in size from about six inchs tall upward, depending on how much water they hold. There is a bladder inside which is pressurised and as the tank fills with water the bladder applies pressure to the water coming out at the users end – the tap of shower etc.
The pressure tank does not require any electricity to work and has made life much more comfortable for us and our rainwater collection system. I suspect one of the problems for you would where to put the pressure tank so as to prevent freezing and I wondered if your super duper hen house might be close to the rink and suitable? Also I wondered if your hen house might be a place to store your hose to prevent freeze? You have probable already thought of all this but I have no idea what you property is like and what is where so just throwing ideas about – hope you don't mind? Also, of course I am procrastinating because I should be writing some emails but I will get to them, really I will...
