Today Sophie learned to purl. She took up knitting a couple of years ago but only just got around to doing anything other than endless garter stitch scarves. I showed her the stitch and she tried out a little sampler of garter stitch, stocking stitch, 2x2 rib and 1x1 rib. And then I showed her some pictures of korknisse and she was entranced. After quickly doing one myself in the round and very quickly deciding that the big needles /small number of stitches combination would be deadly for a beginning knitter, I wrote the pattern out in a schematic for her, to be knitted flat on two needles. She was able to follow the pattern, her first ever, easily.
