Hyperbole

Thirteen staples per gram. Seventy-three point eight grams of staples this afternoon, meaning just under a thousand. Combined with yesterday's now-disposed-of staples, I suppose I must revise my staple estimate to more like three thousand for the whole chair.

Still, when every single one must be pried out with brute force (read: two-hand grasp, feet planted, twist and grunt) that seems like a lot. This is a well-made chair.

  1. Ah, yes chairs. I wound up doing two chairs while extremely pregnant, because neither the thoughts of toddlers and tack nor living with the chairs as they were were enjoyable.

enjoy your triumph when you get your corner of the room back from all the equipment - oh, a strong magnet is great for picking up stray bits of tacks and staples, my husband got mine out of the clysron of an old microwave.

  2. I do not envy you this task! I redid my kitchen chairs earlier this year and while the finished product looks great, I'm not eager to dive into this kind of project again any time soon! The sad part is my dining room chairs really could use some new fabric and I cringe thinking of the work involved!

Wow. I'm now feeling like the prices charged for reupholstering furniture are a lot more reasonable than I thought before.
