what great hats. I googled foliage hat and found it on knitty:) I think I can actually make this one but it won't take just a couple of evenings for me and I have to use worsted weight yarn as that is what I have.
ReplyDeleteWhat yarn did you use for these? I am also curious as to what other hat pattern you are about to try. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your blog.
Hi, I've done versions of the foliage hat with worsted. I sized down a needle size because I was actually trying to make a smaller version with <50gm of yarn (some leftovers) for Fiona. I also left off most of a repetition of the pattern (5 rows, I think) at the end of the hat sides to make it smaller. Anyway, it worked out very nicely. The sizing is very forgiving in this pattern, as the open lace pattern makes it very elastic. I think you could probably just stick with the same needle size, use worsted weight, and as you get towards the end, adjust the number of pattern repetitions down the body of the hat if it seems a little large or small. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe other pattern I've started using is this one. I'm on my second one now. It's very nice and rather masculine in the right colour, but the cabling makes it more time-consuming than the Foliage.
These look great. I've not progressed much in my knitting since I was a teen :-( I haven't got any faster or any better at remembering where I'm at in making something. Oh well, I think I have got better at cooking though :-)
